Controller

Location: Central Post Rotterdam, The Netherlands

 

As a Controller, you will be responsible for market-to-market valuations of commodity, derivatives and generate accurate reports on stock levels, stock movements and stock valuation.

In this position of Controller, the main emphasis is on the inventory reconciliation and revaluation (crude materials) at the current market value and reconciliation of the associated contracts. In order to perform this process excellently, you will be in close contact with your colleagues in the purchasing/logistics departments.

You will be working in a professional team with multiple nationalities. The team consists of 5 Controllers (3 assistant and 2 Controllers) and you will report directly to the department lead. In order to safeguard the quality and continuity of our services, we are striving for a multidisciplinary team. In this team tasks are rotated between the various team members. Your responsibilities are:

You will assist in the various reporting cycles and control processes of the business to ensure timely and reliable reporting and business insights.

How does this look like?

• Reconciliation and valuation of the group’s inventory;
• Reconciliation of yield and production reports with the general ledger;
• Manage the mass balance reporting and market to market valuation of crude and refined inventory;
• Monthly preparation, reconciliation and follow-up of purchase and sales accruals;
• Creation and submission of the inventory insurance report for all insured locations;
• Assist in monthly reconciliation of commercial estimate vs accounting PnL, and analyze the PnL for the various business segments;
• Formulate and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies and controls;
• Implementation and monitoring of new and adjusted accounting standards;
• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the various group entities;
• Daily reconciliation and analysis of FX exposure position;
• Prepare monthly management and board reporting pack;
• Prepare the group consolidation on a quarterly basis;
• Support the internal and external audit processes for any queries, audit findings, and follow up action items;
• Ad hoc preparation of analyses and query support.

To excel in this role, you should demonstrate that you are well organized and that you have strong analytical skills and are able to work with a high degree of accuracy. You can work with a helicopter view, are able to switch between different tasks to oversee the entire process. This will make sure you can implement improvements where needed. You dare to show initiative and are able to deal with resistance. 

• Minimal 3 years of relevant working experience in process industry or supply chain management or in a collection agency is desirable;
• Basic accounting knowledge especially of billing and collections procedures will be a must;
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experienced in working with databases and ERP systems;
• Basic understanding of Credit risk metrics;
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities;
• Assertive, target-driven and autonomous work approach;
• Good knowledge of spoken and written English is essential; further languages (German, Polish, Dutch, Italian and/or Spanish) is desirable.
