Wij zijn op zoek naar een Senior Ion Exchange Membrane Scientist (PhD).

Your role will involve optimizing the membrane stack, a crucial component of our client's acid-base flow battery system. Your expertise will be essential in overcoming challenges related to co-ion transport, enhancing ion selectivity, and advancing the development of cutting-edge bipolar membranes.

What you’ll be bing

• Lead the research and development of innovative ion exchange membranes tailored for acid-base flow batteries.
• Focus on reducing co-ion transport to maximize coulombic efficiency and energy storage capacity.
• Use nanotechnology to create membranes with high ion selectivity for optimal charge separation and superior battery performance.
• Develop strategies to enhance the chemical and mechanical stability of membranes in acidic and basic environments.
• Design and improve bipolar membranes with forward bias properties to boost energy efficiency and reduce internal resistance in the battery stack.
• Utilize advanced characterization techniques to evaluate membrane properties critical to flow battery performance, such as ion conductivity, selectivity, and chemical stability.
• Collaborate closely with team members to integrate membrane expertise into the overall design and optimization of the membrane stack.
• Share findings through presentations, reports, and participation in technical discussions.
• Stay updated on advancements in ion exchange membrane research, bipolar membrane technology, and acid-base flow battery development, incorporating the latest knowledge into your work.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical reports on membrane research, characterization results, and their impact on battery performance.

What we are looking for

Only candidates living in the Netherlands will be considered for this position.

Education and Experience:

• Ph.D. in Chemistry with a strong focus on membrane science and technology.
• Over 2 years of relevant industry experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proven expertise in ion transport phenomena, including co-ion transport, ion selectivity, and perm selectivity mechanisms in ion exchange membranes.
• Experience with techniques for characterizing ion exchange membranes, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and ion chromatography.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to achieving high-quality results.
• Proficiency in English.

Considered a Plus:

• Familiarity with acid-base flow battery technology and its principles.
• Proficiency in Dutch, both spoken and written.
