About the role
The MHE & Operations Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality training programs to ensure employees operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safely and competently. This includes forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks, and other machinery. The role is crucial for promoting a strong safety culture, supporting new employees, and providing regular upskilling and refresher training. Additionally, the trainer maintains accurate training records, conducts company inductions, and supports continuous improvements in operational training to meet compliance standards.
The ideal candidate should have significant experience in warehousing and MHE training, strong observational skills, and a proactive attitude towards safety. The trainer provides coaching, mentoring, and hands-on support during onboarding, equipment trials, and peak periods, ensuring a consistent, safe, and productive work environment. They will work closely with team leaders and managers to maintain high standards and support continuous improvement in operations.
Main responsibilities
Training & Coaching:
- Deliver hands-on and classroom-based training for MHE (forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks);
- Provide induction training for new starters;
- Plan and conduct refresher training every 12–24 months;
- Support cross-training and upskilling of employees;
- Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring.
Safety & Operational Support:
- Conduct regular safety walks and operational observations;
- Ensure daily equipment checks and adherence to safety protocols;
- Act as a safety ambassador within the warehouse;
- Attend safety meetings, toolbox talks, and audits;
SOP & Process Management:
- Develop, amend, and review SOPs and procedures;
- Ensure training materials are up-to-date and standardized;
Training Records & Compliance:
- Maintain detailed training records and track MHE authorizations;
- Participate in audits and manage the training tracker;
Onboarding Support:
- Deliver company induction programs to new starters;
Continuous Improvement & Communication:
- Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback and reviews;
- Update training materials to reflect changes;
- Collaborate with various teams to align training with business needs;
Support During Peak Periods:
- Provide flexible training cover during peak periods;
- Ensure trained personnel are available to meet increased MHE demand;
Collaboration & Training Needs Analysis:
- Work with managers to identify training requirements;
- Partner with operational teams to provide additional training;
Equipment & Process Improvement:
- Support the introduction of new equipment and processes;
- Provide training and guidance for effective implementation.
Person Profile
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience in operating and training on MHE in warehousing or logistics;
- Proven training experience in operational, logistics, or manufacturing environments;
- Strong understanding of SOPs, risk assessments, and safe systems of work;
- Ability to coach, mentor, and support operatives for high performance;
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety protocols for MHE use;
- Excellent observational and organizational skills;
- Confident communicator, capable of delivering engaging training;
- Experience in managing training records, schedules, and reporting;
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Familiarity with Dutch safety standards and equipment regulations;
- Experience in multi-lingual work environments;
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems or training platforms;
- Experience with onboarding new starters;
- Familiarity with training systems and tools (e.g., ERP, LMS);
- Experience in conducting audits and preparing training records;
- Exposure to process optimization and new operational processes.
